👉 Step 1 - Research
Research is the key “first step” to any licensing deal. Not only do you need to find your competitors, but you also need to know what other similar products are in the market. This gives you the vital steps needed to create “a better mousetrap” with your ideas. But researching on Google is not enough, you have to take action by going out into the world to find the pieces of research you need to own your market.

Marketing your invention is where a lot of inventors struggle. The secret to marketing your inventions is almost counter-intuitive because you must turn “no’s” into epic “Yes’s!”

A common misconception that stops most inventors is that they think they need to file a patent on their idea. But, there is a little known “loophole” in patent law that allows them to protect their idea for up to 12 months. This cost is so small compared to hiring an attorney and filing for an official patent that could take years to process. If you don’t know about this crucial side-step, you could waste valuable time and loads of money!
👉 Step 4 - Sell, Sell, Sell
Not everyone is a born salesperson. It takes years and years of practice. This is especially true for inventors like you. You may be successful in real estate sales, or software sales, for example, but selling your idea to a potential licensee is a whole different ball game. Miss one step in this process and you could lose out on a licensing deal worth thousands or millions of dollars.
